    At the dawn of spring, I am reminded of the joy of anticipating new life.

    I will usually see a flower or two that has made its way through the soil to a world beyond itself. What starts out as a seedling or bulb is transformed by nature’s capacity to evolve.

    Inside each of us lies dormant an awareness, an identity, an ability to grow beyond what we appear to be. Every moment, we are being challenged by others and by circumstances to create a life that exceeds our present state of living.

    The stem begins its growth in the earth below and into the sky above. This part of the flower is the connecting characteristic of the plant. Much like humanity, we are in this world without being fully of it. This creates a sacredness to our lives. It is our unique ability to live and grow in a way no one ever has, is, or ever will.

    3. The Flower

    In full bloom, a flower is the illumination of all the life that has preceded it. The radiance and color that pour out of it create life.   • Confidence: Dealing With And Creating Self Confidence

    Our society is in some ways becoming increasingly isolated and individualized, leading to less worthwhile personal connectivity between us humans. In some cases this is not always a bad thing; however the decreased amount of human interaction could be a potential problem over time. It is my opinion that we are already seeing the effects of this in the west. With a decrease in interaction with other humans from many different back grounds we run the treat of losing some of our most valuable communication skills and in a lot of cases, don’t even build the experiences to acquire them in the first place.

Well with a reduced amount of human interaction and lack of constructive communication we can feel self conscious when we are put into certain situations when we are older. As a therapist, I help a large amount of people with things such as social confidence or social phobia. Nearly always it is presented to me by the client that they feel that they just don’t fit in, that their opinion just doesn’t count and that they wish just to remain in the background – well at least until we have successfully treated them. This is quite a common situation and something that I help clients with on a daily basis.

    So, a lack of communication and human connectivity or interaction can lead to confidence and self esteem problems. If this is the case for you, what can you do about it? You can boost your confidence in many ways; however it is always best to consider the most effective root, so that you can resolve the issue as soon as possible. Think about where you notice your lack of confidence, as it almost certainly will not affect you all of the time. Once you know where a lack of confidence or low self esteem is going to rear its ugly head you are better placed to deal with it successfully.

  • Dreams And Goals

    In this short article I’d like to discuss a certain kind of belief that holds many people – people who are quite capable and talented – back from reaching goals, realizing dreams, and becoming all that they can become. The concept of the “Absolute Presupposition” is central to this discussion. (The term was originally coined by the British philosopher R.G. Collingwood, in a somewhat different context.)

    What is an absolute presupposition? For our purposes here we may define it as a statement that is necessarily, unquestionably, inarguably true. You cannot imagine circumstances under which it can be false. “Two plus two equals four” is a statement of this kind. So is “If you throw a ball up in the air, it will fall back to Earth.” Absolute presuppositions are statements we must accept as true if our world is to make any sense to us at all.

    However, as we shall see in a moment, sometimes we mistakenly believe a statement to be an absolute presupposition…and it turns out that it really isn’t. I’m going to suggest that if you are encountering an unusually tough problem in life – whether it be in business, the arts, sports, your personal life, whatever – it is because you are believing something to be an absolute presupposition which really isn’t one. You believe something to be necessarily true and it isn’t even true at all, never mind necessarily so. Let’s look at some instances.

    In the Middle Ages people believed that if you sailed a ship out to the line of the horizon, where the sea and sky met, then you would fall off the edge of the planet. Why? Because they believed the Earth was flat. They could not possibly imgine that it could be otherwise because they had no knowledge of the laws of gravity and physics – a round Earth was simply inconceiveable. “The Earth is flat,” was an absolute presupposition, and every single person who was alive on the face of the earth beleived it to be true. Yet it isn’t true.

    Similarly, at one time in history it was thought to be impossible for a human being to be able to run a mile in less than four minutes. People believed this to be true for untold centuries – millions, even billions, of people at one time took “It is impossible for a human being to run a mile in under four minutes” to be an absolute presupposition. Yet it was shown to be untrue when Roger Bannister did it. After Bannister, runners everywhere started beating the time.

    So then: beliefs exist in your own life that are similar to “The Earth is flat” and “It is impossible for a human being to run a mile in under four minutes.” These beliefs are what hold us back from our greatest potential. We set up obstacles and impediments by taking for granted, and by not questioning, beliefs that we mistakenly hold as sacrosanct. By identifying these beliefs, and by examining how we might break free of the constraints they impose upon us, we begin to make incredible progress in all we want to do.

  • A Time to Rest, A Time to Heal

    Life is not always a pleasant walk down the garden path. Who has not known pain and anguish? Who has not suffered the wounds of a relationship discord? Problems are challenges life casts our way.

    We navigate through the detours and face dead-ends in our journey. We set sail, aware of the possibility of stormy weather that can develop overnight. But we are determined to ride out the storm and not get lost in it.

    At times, we take more than we can handle. We are caught up in giving ourselves to the call of duty. We tend to justify the demands on our time and energy. We forget that the world will go on, with or without us.

    Life goes in cycles – sometimes the cycle is up, then it goes down, like the spokes of a wheel. Sorrow and grief comes to everyone sooner or later.

    A grieving heart affects the mind, body and spirit deeply. Sometimes the pain is buried so deeply where no one can reach it, much less touch it.

    Peace becomes elusive. Perspective is not as sharp, there is too much clutter in the mind.

    This is the time to recharge your energies. It is a time to heal, mind, body and soul. It is a time to recognize the chaos and confusion that can cause illusions or delusions and make peace elusive.

    Forgive what needs to be forgiven. Forgiveness can be liberating.

    Healing takes time, allow yourself that. Remember,time is a great healer, if you let it.

    Timing is essential when speaking in public. The cliché: It is not what you say but more on how you say it, applies so much to public speaking.

    Where you put your pauses during your presentation is one of the important aspects of maintaining an audience that is free from drowsing off. Couple this with humor and you are definitely on a roll.

    Timing is the element involved during reactions that are spontaneous especially on developments during your delivery that are unexpectedly expected.

    Believe it or not, putting that much needed silence in your presentation is one of the hallmarks of a skilled and good presenter. No public speaker should jabber constantly away in the hopes of keeping an audience glued to anything it is you have to say. Ironically, this is one effective way to keep their focus off you.     If you want to learn how eat right you can read about it in books from the local library or maybe you will want to talk to your doctor. Your doctor might be able to tell you how to go about doing this and the right way for your body. You cannot just jump in and change everything about you overnight. You have to take time to start and to learn. For some of us that have been eating wrong all of our life, this would be hard to do over night. Then again, others may not have any problems with it. You want to consider your position and move forward.

The truth about the matter is simply that there are a lot of things out of your hands. You can’t control everything that happens to. It’s hard to be perfect for anyone and it’s not right to make yourself become something you are not. You’ll want to consider that there is certain responsibility needed on your part. If you can stop and think about yourself and proclaim that you are an overall happy person, then you should be given a medal. Everyone is unhappy with some part of themselves (job, personal relationships, family, so on…), but if you are able to appreciate the things that you have, then you are a successful person.
